TOSHIBA Quad Core HD Processor “SpursEngine SE1000” PCs Available Now!

One of the most powerful and nerdy A/V microprocessor from Toshiba, the SuprsEngine Quad Core HD processor SE1000, will be installed in the latest line-up of Dynabook Qosmio G50 Series, F50 Series and FX Series.

This image processor will give you a mind blowing HD experience if... if your swap the lame DVD player with a real HD player like the Blu-Ray. Instead of giving you the pleasure of real HD video, Toshiba decided to, guess what? Up-scale the DVD resolution in order to give you “wannabe” HD video from a regular DVD thanks to pixel conversion... Which reminds me of this nice and interesting bit of news : Toshiba: A New Future Failure After Its FIrst Attempt at Killing Blu-Ray?

While I'm sure that the DVD quality upscaled with this technology may not be as nice as one provided by a HD-DVD player (if you still get one) or a Blu-Ray. When it comes to hooking-up your HD camera contents to this beast, I'm sure the video will be stunning!

Specwise, our computers receive some decent hardware:

Qosmio G50/98G with its 18.7 full HD LCD, SE1000 SuprsEngine, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of RAM, 500GB of HDD.

Qosmio G50/97G with its 18.7 full HD LCD, SE1000 SuprsEngine, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB of HDD.

Qosmio F50/88G with its 15.4 WXGA, SE1000 SuprsEngine, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB of HDD.

SuprsEngine (Wikipedia)
The SpursEngine is a stream processor powered by four Synergistic Processing Elements (SPE), also used in the Cell processor featured in Sony PlayStation 3. These processing elements are fed by on chip H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs and controlled by an off die host CPU, connected by an on chip PCIe controller (in contrast to the Cell processor which has a on chip CPU (the PPE) doing similar work). To enable smoother interaction between the host and the SpursEngine Toshiba also integrated a simple proprietary 32-bit control core. The SpursEngine employs dedicated XDR DRAM as its working memory.
