MOTTAINAI, the 600 euros USB key

SolidAlliance, an expert for uncommon USB keys, offers today the MOTTAINAI, a rather “special” 2GB key priced at 600.00 euros… You read correctly, we’re talking about 600.00 euros. This USB key is a work of art. It includes some crystals from Statsuma Kiriko, a major Japanese crystal glassmaker. Our expert also included gold to give the key a really shiny look. However, the key is not totally made of gold, as the case is made of bronze.
This key was made as a tribute to the Japanese craft industry.

Mad props to Kagoshima! If I were wildly wealthy, I'd buy one

Firs of all, it's not a crystal, it's Satsuma-style cut-glass.

Second, the article fails to mention a major feature and the point of the whole undertaking. The flash memory is swappable, allowing for a less wasteful upgrade. The housing, the connector, the LED stay, and only the easily-recycled circuit board is replaced.

This is the first technology product to come out of the MOTTAINAI initiative, started by the Kenyan Nobelist Wangari Maathai to put a brake on the constant and massive waste of material and energy that we engage in. The idea of this particular device is to use something well and lovingly made by hand from high-quality material for years, with minimum waste, rather than buy a bunch of cheap ones stamped out in factories using questionable labor and environmental practices that end up misplaced or in the landfill, during the same time.
