PS3 Slim, Alive and Official!

Here it is, the shiny new Sony PlayStation 3 Slim, officially unveiled in the US (yesterday for US)… SO what's new with the PS3 Slim? Well first I don't know if Sony did it on purpose but they really tried to emphasize the number “3” with this one… Yep the PS3 Slim is now 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less energy than the previous generation and emphasizes this time on the number “2” for just 29,800 Yen or 2€99 or $299 USD….

Beside its new look the PS3 Slim is sold with a very convenient 120GB HDD (not that it matters since we could swap the HDD on the previous PS3 very easily).

Basically the PS3 Slim keeps the same features as the PS3. You can still watch Blu-Ray movies, but you loose both the PS2 retro compatibility as well as the ability to install an Linux OS. The good is for BRAVIA TV owners… remember when we linked back CrunchGear regarding some difficulty that some Sony fans had connecting Sony component to each other? Well it seems Sony worked quite a while on this and they announced the new 3.0 PS3 firmware (on both the PS3 and PS3 Slim) will fix this, and includes BRAVIA Sync.

PS: Nicely done guys with the 3 on each new aspect of this new PS3

Some of the newer "fat" models never had back conpatibility anyway (and I never use Linux)
