[TGS09] GT5, Too Clean, Too Perfect, Too Boring?

GT has been around for a long time, maybe too long for the competition. It's considered the best driving simulator EVER made and I really agree… I've played all GTs yet released, and I've always been amazed by the experience… Although GT5 doesn't disappoint… I'm less excited about owning it as I expected.

Technically speaking the game is beautiful and PERFECT. The joy of playing it won’t change from the previous GT4, you'll get the same feel, and the cars, like on FM3, are close to reality when it comes to handling… However, the amazing power the PS3 gave the Polyphony Digital developers, the capability to create surrealistic graphics, cleaner and more precise than you could ever imagine… Yep you're reading me right, GT5 is too beautiful, thus making it less interesting to me… The detail is so precise that there's too much on the screen. It's a bit like Uncharted 2 where too many amazing details makes the game appear messy.

Rest assured, I like details but I prefer FM3 where the focus is where it should be rather than on crystal clear details of every game aspect including the background (no DOF)… I'm sure if you look closely you can recognize the T-shirt a random character in the crowd is wearing.

As for game play, and besides the addition of car damage (that's not that impressive) and the choice of a variaty of cars like the SLS AMG (a nice car by the way, more beautiful in person than in press pictures), GT5 feels much like a GT5 Prologue…

GT5 is still an impressive game, I'll get it as soon as it's available, but so far I'm more in love with FM3.

You prefer Forza 3 because it's not as good?

You can turn the HUD off. There are plenty of other tracks too. Tokyo track has a"busy" background. Tokyo is a busy place.

That's funny. There are a lot of articles lately indicating that Forza 3's damage model is outdated and parts don't realistically get damaged (i.e. hit the right rear bumper, but left taillight breaks apart or hit a car headon at 92mph and only get scuff marks)

Otherwise GT5p feels lightyears different from GT4. I would think with the setup that Microsoft made for Forza 3 (moving seat, sound, 3 tvs, racing wheel), it'd entice journalists to write better positive remarks about their Forza 3 experience. Otherwise playing the demo of it at home, though was a wonderful game, leaves a sour taste at the end.
