Koitoy : The Third World Has Zeebo, Japan Has the Koitoy!

The Third World Has Zeebo, Japan Has the Koitoy!

Finally the Koitoy is officially announced in Japan. We heard about this bad ass device for a while now, since last year's TGS (Tokyo Game Show)… This morning we some ads around Akihabara and on the subway regarding the soon to be released Koitoy…

If we do not have much info to share with you like, detailed specs, the Koitoy is my dream come true… And not sure if it won't become a collector's item since it's a universal ISO game player. Simply put, the Koitoy on the paper can play PS3, X360, Wii, NDS and PSP games either from a ISO file, or directly through its Blu-ray DVD drive.

Back during the TGS we heard a future firmware update will allow people to play retro games like Dreamcast… The Koitoy is also the ultimate media center thank to its HD-DVD and Blu-ray drive based on the Samsung combo drive we talked about a while ago.

We're still trying to get hold of more info and our contact over at Koitoy is preparing some more data for us, but man I'm amazed how they succeeded in pulling this off. I mean seriously, SONY, MS and Nintendo hasn't said anything yet about this? I'm sure once someone tips them off these ads will soon vanish from Tokyo and a huge lawsuit will follow… We'll keep you in the loop as much as we can…

A little note from Koitoy's PR: In Japan it's NOT illegal to sell hardware to play copied games, but it is ILLEGAL to sell software for playing illegal games... Apparently the Koitoy is only hardware based, this is also why in Japan NDS flash cart are not illegal... and carts always come without software, you have to download it yourself from places like Chinese Websites.

Hi. I posted your controversial story on my blog. And apparently, a lot of people are baffled and thinking that this is some hoax or an April fools prank. The photo looks real but I can only tell if it's been photoshopped or not if you could send me the original one for analysis. Or better yet, just tell all avid Akihabaranew.com followers like me straight out if this is a reliable story or not. Thanks.

Thanks Daimaou for confirming. Geez, I never learn! From now on, anything coming from this site should be taken with a grain of salt.
