We already presented products like these, and this is IO-DATA's digital video recorder, designed for recording Hi-Vision (HD) in Japan. A new version is thrown onto the market now, with a 160Gb instead of a 250Gb HDD. Our REC-POT TF has an iLink port for Tv connectivity, and that's the only available port. the recording is done in the MPEG2-TS (28.3Mbps) format, and depensing on the HD TV you can record between 17 and 42h of TV on the 160Gb version and 26 to 65h on the 250Gb version.

Hi,

Can somebody explain me what 28.3 Mbps means ? I thought it meant an average (or is it maximum ?) 28.3 Mega bits per seconds encoding rate. If this were true then my calculations don't make sense :

a) 28,3 Mbps * 60 = 1698 Mbpm * 60 = 101880 Mbph / 8 = 12735 MBph
b) 160 GB * 1024 = 163840 MB / 12735 MBph = 12,87 h
c) 250 GB * 1024 = 256000 MB / 12735 MBph = 20,10 h

=> 12,87 hours is not in the range of 17-24 hours (160 GB)
=> 20,10 hours is not in the range of 26-65 hours (250 GB)

I asume the 'b' in 28.3 Mbps stands for 'bits', the 'b' in 160 Gb stands for 'bytes' (?)

Can somebody explain me where I go wrong ?

Thanx

Mbps = megabits per second

Mb/sec, Mbits/sec, Mb/s or Mbps means megabits per second and is used for transmission speeds in a network or in internal circuits.
