I agree totally.

Not a single setup CD came with my Vayo but they used a separate Partition on the harddrive (which of course uses some GB of space) to dump the setup files there. If you want you can Boot right intot that Partition and re-install your PC. I do not want to waste Space but rather would prefer to have an install DVD to keep for emergency situtations.

So I got rid of this f****** b******* and put my favourite flavour of linux on the box. No spyware or pre-installed software trials there. I took a quick look at windows before installing linux and you are so right about it. The f****** Sony Club software is so annoying.

I still like Sony (although they do not like Linux on their hardware as there are no drivers for the cardreader or the modem) but as soon as there is someone else in Europe offering nice designed notebooks (not apple please, I do not want to pay that much) I am going to switch. The dynabook series of Toshiba was quite nice but I am not sure if it was available in Europe.

I had the same problem - looks like Sony pre-installs the fingerprint software - and once it's removed (or breaks) there is no separate installer.

I called UPEK and they're aware of the problem. They told me that they're working on the issue and hopefully it will be posted to their site sometime soon.
