Some Core 2 Duo from Dospara

We already introduced you Dospara, a Japanese PC outlet where we are proud to say that our computers are coming from there... Listen DELL, NEVER, EVER we will buy something from you so stop sending us each week by fax your latest "bargain". Anyway Dospara propose today 2 Core 2 Duo powered PC with the Prime Cube Magnate LD, a shuttle like miniATX with a E6300 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 250GB of HDD, and the Prime Slim Magante LMD, which has exactly the same hardware configuration but in a "desktop" style box. Both of these computers are available in their basic package for less than 630.00 EUR. Ok, the design is far to be sexy... but well for the price...

Very simple

A year ago, I had to install a SBS Server in my office, and I had NEVER installer a Server in my life so... I had to call a company which will provide me a good value for my money and I had in mind DELL, its cheap PCs and all their marketing fuse in mind. I was hoping to get a cheap Server fully loaded and ready to work and this tuned by Dell.

I really want to stress that I NEVER installed a server in my life before and even worse.... I never successfully installed Linux on a PC.

So I had a Girl which came to me with a Celeron 2.0 GHz, 512MB of RAM, 60GB of IDE Drive and this was the cheapest Server from them, it came to a nice 350,000 YEN... Ok that was expensive but still I was ready for a company server to buy it. Now the nice lady from Dell told me that in order to install SBS on this computer (I thought that it was in the package already ) I had to pay 1 Million YEN !!!! So it would make a Total of 1.35 Million yen or in USD $11750

GOOD LORD ! I told to the girl I will think about it and then hang up... And went down to Akihabara, Bought a e-Machine (rubbish), with a 2.3GHz Celeron, 1GB of RAM, bought a SATA RAID Card, 2 80GB Sata Raptor HDD, a 14" LCD, for 250,000 YEN (a 100 cheaper than Dell). Contacted my Supplier in the US (MaLabs http://www.malabs.com/) Bought SBS for $450 USD installed smoothly SBS by myself, created accounts, building up an intranet, FTP... and so on.

The nice girl from Dell called my 1 week later, and several days after I build up a cheaper Server with better performances and with just 5 hours of my time to set it up... and I told her nicely that DELL, can go to rot in HELL.

As for today, this server is running 24/24h 7 days a week, since more than a year without ANY FAILURE and I have a RAID (mirroring partition)

So do you still think Dell worth anything?
