I moved to Ireland after living in Hawaii for 10 years. I miss it so much and I will be moving back eventually. Until then I will count the hours.
If you go into Honolulu you really must find a very small place in palolo valley called "North Shore Grinds" it's not on the north shore at all and in fact it's on the south shore. It's a hidden secret to even most Hawaiian's. The guy who runs the place is japanese and so very humble and yet makes the most amazing sauces for his mouth watering food. They are only open for lunch and well worth the hunt to find it. Here is a link to a map for you:

I lived there for many years as well, but now in Japan. That island is called, locally, Chinaman's Hat, because of its distinctive appearance. I've forgotten the Hawaiian name. It's on the North end of Kaneohe Bay. I worked on Coconut island, a marine lab, barely visible on the right side of the photo at water level. The small islands to the left are the Moku Manu islands or Shark Island translated.
I miss Hawaii too, but my Japanese wife likes it here more in Tokyo. While you are there, please try Kaneka's Plate lunch in Waimanalo for the LauLaus. If you are in Waikiki, check out the Shore Bird or Dukes for good food (slightly pricey). But whatever you do, don't leave anything in your rental car and consider leaving it unlocked. Petty theft is a serious problem there. I don't miss that part.

I'm starting to peel from the sunburn. Very, very, very bad - 5 hours of snorkling will do horrible things to your back. I'll spare everyone from having to see the image of my back that my wife took
.

If I had to choose technology or paradise, I choose paradise all the way. A simple life is just easier to live without so many toys. All I would need is electricity, my mp3 jukebox and dam good speakers.

I'd settle for a 70's block party stereo and either a good record collection or a good classic rock station if I had to choose, just so I could be sure that some one around me could fix it that day. Gotta have the tunes.
