Features Full HDTV Specifications

Seoul, Korea – August 21, 2006: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s largest provider of thin-film transistor, liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels, has developed the first 70-inch LCD panel for use in the consumer TV market. Currently, the largest LCD TV screen size is 65 inches in diameter. The company will unveil its 70-inch LCD HDTV at the International Meeting on Information Displays (IMID) 2006, which will open in Daegu, Korea on August 23.

Executive Vice President Kim Sang-Soo of Samsung Electronics said, “Our new 70-inch LCD is not only significantly larger, but also sets a new benchmark of excellence in terms of video image reproduction, viewing angle and image quality. We’ve designed it to dramatically enhance the large screen LCD TV user’s viewing experience. ”

Samsung’s latest LCD panel boasts full high-definition resolution (1080p) and a conical viewing angle of 180 degrees for multi-viewing audiences. In addition, its video signal is reproduced at 120Hz, compared to a video signal of 60 Hz for a conventional Full HD LCD panel, enabling rapidly moving video images to be reproduced with crystal clarity.

Samsung will begin producing the new 70-inch LCD during the first half of 2007, bolstering its position in the ultra-large-screen TV segment. With the introduction of the 70” LCD TV, the company will be in a position to compete head-to-head with PDP (plasma display panel) and projection TV makers.

What I don't understand is how can you get 1080p on a 30" lcd and then only get 1080p on a 70" lcd. If it is twice the size, it should be able to reproduce twice the resolution, right? Are they using liquid cristal cells twice the size of the normal ones? IBM made a 22.1" QUXGA LCD screen (the T221, model number 9503-DG1), so 70" should be enough for 9600x4800 or something like that, not just 1920x1080.

Anyway, this is still a great product just for the size. The frame looks a little rough, but that's probably because it's a pre-production model. The finished version should look all shiny like all the other LCDs I can't wait until they make touchscreen function something normal for big LCDs, so I can finally use photoshop and autocad in style.

PS.: Everything in eastern Asia comes with a female model?

I think that 70'' screens are a very big leap in lcd matrix production. The implementation of this device are extremelly wide. I wonder how fast this product will arrive on US market.

Difference between LCD TV and LCD display is a built-in tuner. TV's have the ability to display broadcast, whereas LCD displays (or monitors) require an external converter. Both however can accept such signals as Component, HDMI, VGA, etc.

Yes, you can use 70" LCD in control panel, but you should check to make sure it meets your standards.

I'm guessing these things are going for around 6000-7000 US$

I don't know how you make a TV ethernet supporting.
