If it cannot play anything else besides ATRAC and MP3... then they can use the Direct USB function for ... a very different purpose :p

Well it also plays AAC and WMA w/o DRM, and I don't know many small direct USB DMPs that have color screen and 30H battery life.
Now again, it will depend on the price... but I think I've seen the 1Gb for 69€, so it's not so much.
