LaVie is the name of NEC's notebooks range, 4 new versions are coming.
The "LaVie C" is built for audio and video, it is equipped with a Super-Shien View EX3 liquid Crystal screen said to be 25% better (brightness/contrast) than the previous X2 monitors. The 15 inches screen is either WXGA or WXGA+.
Depending on the version you can have various configurations but we focus here on the best one proposing a Core 2 Duo T7200 (2Ghz), Blu-Ray and BD player, Radeon X1600 with 512MB of VRAM and HDMI. If it's too much for you there still is the possibility to go for the Core 2 Duo T5600 and DVD DL burner.
For the "LaVie J" NEC worked on proposing a more "compact" product: 12.1 inches screen with XGA resolution, the best version benefits from a Core 2 Duo U7500 (1.06Ghz), 1GB of memory, Wifi, Bluetooth, DVD burner, 120 GB of disk space and all this, with or without the digital TV tuner (PCMCIA).
LaVie L "Advanced Type" now, using the same shape of the C series but with different specifications:Core 2 Duo T5500 (or Celeron M430), an ATI Xpress 1250 video card, no more digital TV tuner and a good old X2 monitor (LaVie C uses the new EX3 technology).
And finally the LaVie L "Basic Type" with just what you need and nothing more : Celeron M430 or Sempron 3400+ CPU, ATO Radeon Xpress 200M etc...
