A new Sofmap MegaStore in Akihabara!!

A couple years back, you could walk around in Akihabara and enjoy those small shops made "by Geeks for Geeks" to find little unexpected wonders of all kinds, this is THE thing that made the Akihabara district so famous! Unfortunately this is about to end...the reason? The invasion of Duty Free (for tourists) shops and Yodobashi Cameras (soon in video) forced a lot of those small shops to stop their activity...

This is where you'll find one of the oldest shop around, which decided to get bigger, and when I mean bigger I mean a 7 levels MegaStore covering 4600m² where you'll find anything you need and more!

Pretty sad situation in some ways, but that's the evolution of the market; good luck to Sofmap!!

Well, it's obvious that it would be Sofmap to open the mega store, since it's part of the Bic camera group. They would want to have a competitor to Yodobashi.

But then again, Sofmap is already on it's return as a chain of stores. They used to have a Giga Store in Umeda (Next to the post office, underneath a railway viaduct) Osaka.

It has been reduced in size to about 10~15% of what it was. This was mostly due to Yodobashi Umeda opening some years back.

This place definitely has a slick look to it, but I suppose this whole thing is bittersweet. As you said, that's how it is.
