D-Link Next Generation MediaLounge(TM) Wireless Media Player

Today D-Link debuted its latest MediaLounge(TM) Media Player, a network device designed to stream HD and SD video, movies, digital photos and music without the restriction of wires. Yes, this is a wireless device that you can pretty much set up anywhere in your home, and it will still read the files from your PC. D-Link is calling the device "an extender for Windows Media Center", which means that if Media Player will play the file, so will this new set-top device. The player is able to transmit the HD video through D-Link's award-winning dual-band draft Wireless N Technology.

The player comes with a remote, easy-to-use user interface--they say with hassle-free navigation, I don't know how hassled you feel when it comes to navigating menus, but if you do feel that way, then this is for you--digital surround sound, a USB 2.0 port for thumbdrives, and the wonderful 10/100 ethernet connectivity that we all love. The only downside is that there is no built in disc capability, meaning that it all has to be available on the hard drive on the PC where the software is installed.

This new player is set to be compatible with Windows Vista, and if it works half as well as my Buffalo LinkTheater, it would be a great addition to any home AV system. You can pick one of these up for an MSRP of about $350 starting in November.
