Xacti CG9: The Ultimate User Friendly Xacti by Sanyo

Rate this News:  BadPoorAverageGoodExcellent

Over the past few years Sanyo has become the leading manufacturer of compact video cameras, and as the market leader, they have to work hard to retain their position. This is why today Sanyo decided to come to us to introduce their shiny new Xacti CG9… Their user friendly entry level video camera.

Sanyo recognizes that women represent a huge percentage of their customers in Japan and worldwide. For a year or so Sony has worked closely with women in order to understand better their compact video camera needs. They were as surprised as I was to discover that a slim and small device is not one of the most attractive factors for them, they apparently think bigger and bulkier models are easier to handle… Basically a skinny Xacti was less attractive than a fatter one… (If this is also true when it comes to women choosing men… It could change my life!).

Anyway, our new CG9 retains the Xacti look, but is a little fatter than usual. Here are the specs: 9.1 Mpix CMOS, 40MB of internal memory, a 5x optical zoom, and H.264 video codec (video is recorded in VGA at 60fps max).

Bear in mind that Sanyo is thinking “entry level” and will offer VERY aggressive pricing worldwide. When it comes to video and photo quality, the change from CCD to CMOS may provide less crispy video than produced by other models, but you'll still get decent video quality and great photo quality too.

Here are over 33 shots of the three cameras available in Japan, and a short video.

That looks absolutely gorgeous. I'm a bit suprised women prefer a bulkier one, I always thought small and slender = better (well, in some cases this is not true).

Anyway, it looks like Sanyo did a great job again.

I prefer the white one. Good review by the way!

In my opinion they messed it up completely now.
It's the cheapest trash I can imagine getting from sanyo and I already told them.
This will harm their reputation in compact camcorders reaching the same level as aipteks and co!
The prices I read it to be started at make me laugh of such an ignorance.
That is not an entry price for a cheap plastic toy and that's what it is, as I saw it in your presentation clip and proved by the samples on the japanese sanyo site.

I am curious about the new Xacti CG9. When will you have a full review available?

I currently own a JVC MZ-G155. I hate it. The quality is just awful.

One of the things that attracted to me to the Xacti line: its small, fits in the pocket.

The CG9 I believe will be released in the U.S. in a few weeks.

How good is it? I noticed a number of new features to be introduced in this new model of the Xacti. How is video playback going to look on my 48" Sony Tv?

As much as I loved your review on the Xacti HD10000, I still do not have an HDTV television. I am going to wait until next year for that and to buy a blue ray dvd player which is too high in price now.

If you could, please let me know your complete thoughts on the CG9. Is it worth it? I feel the price on this seems a bit cheap.

Sincerely,
DREW
