Willcom D4 WSO16SH : Willcom D4 WSO16SH Hands-on!

Willcom D4 WSO16SH Hands-on!

Finally we're back, and GOOD Lord this new Atom powered device is impressive! Stunning design, stunning size (84x188x25.9mm), stunning weight (470g), stunning screen (5” with a 1024x600 resolution and LED backlight), but average performance.

Powered by a 1.33GHz Atom Z520 with 1GB of RAM, the D4's performance with Windows Vista is quite… unimpressive… We're pretty sure that it would be much faster with XP. To give you a better idea how quick it is, compare it to a VAIO UX 72... Nice, but could be better.

Our D4 has an external Bluetooth phone which allows you to place calls (PHS) or use Skype.

We should receive a test device soon. In the meantime, here's over 80 pictures just for you, and we'll upload a quick video of the beast within minutes now.

I must say, this was a gorgeous little thing. It looks really compact and nice, but if it's slow with Vista, then it fails. Will it be expensive?

It'll probably be very expensive. Good design by the way.

When you start to get into handheld gaming size I'd appreciate a joystick/mouse knob on the side. Why hack a PSP when you can run MAME?

Vi$ta (a.k.a. XP DRM Edition) is a bad choice for a mobile CPU. Seeing as M$ has extended the timeframe for XP Home on UMPC/Low Power laptops I wonder why the big V is on this thing.

It appears from the measurements of about 3.3 x 7.4 x 1" and the pictures that the keyboard is long enough for touch typing like clamshells years ago like the HP Jornada 720? is that right?

If so I would definately see this selling very strong to mobile sales and executives whom would rather have a pocket laptop. Can I buy one in the US now or when?

that's why japanese people/companies should stop relying on microsoft operating systems so much.
