This is nothing new, Vstone has camera similar to it already mounted on robots that can autonomously play soccer (see their VisiOn series of robots) at RoboCup

May not be "new" but it is the the market. There are a lot of people/companies that would use this.

We works with my partner - John Spikovski(Virtual360video) with similar product from 1998 year.
