Centrino2 Story, Chapter 11: Sony Strikes Back (More information, Live Pictures & Hands-on)

David M. just came back from a press conference in Roppongi (Tokyo), where Sony’s new Centrino2-Based notebooks were officially introduced.

The FW Series:



The VGN-FW70DB features a 16.4" LCD widescreen in WXGA++ (1600x900), an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz) CPU, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470(256MB) graphics card, 2GB of memory, 250GB of HDD, as well as Blu-Ray, WiFi a/b/g/n, Webcam, and HDMI interface

The VGN-FW50B & VGN-FW30B have specs similar to the FW70DB, but the FW50B comes with a 200GB HDD, and the FW30B features a DVD drive.

FW Series will be available from July 19th. No word on price.

The Type Z Series:



The VGN-Z70B features 13.1 LCD widescreen in WXGA resolution (1366x768 ), an Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 (2.53GHz) CPU, Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS (128MB) graphics card, 2GB of memory, 200GB HDD, WiFi a/b/g/n, DVD super-multi drive, built-in webcamera, and Bluetooth…

This notebook will be available on August 9th. No word on price.

The VGN-Z90PSA features a 13.1" LCD widescreen in WXGA Resolution (1366x768 ), an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz) CPU, Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS GPU (128MB), 1GB of memory, 200GB HDD, WiFi a/b/g/n, DVD Super-multi drive, camera, and Bluetooth….

No information concerning price or release date.

The Type S Series:



The VGN-Z70B features a 13.3" LCD widescreen in WXGA Resolution (1366x768 ), an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz) CPU, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (128MB) graphics card, 2GB of Memory, 160GB HDD, camera, Bluetooth, and DVD super-multi drive… Available on July 19th.

The VGN-SR90FSA features a 13.3" LCD widescreen in WXGA (1280x800), an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU, 1GB of memory, 160GB HDD, camera, WiFi a/b/g/n, DVD super-multi, and Bluetooth..
No word concerning Availability date and price.

The Type BZ Series:

The VGN-BZAAPSA features a 15.4-Inch LCD Widescreen in WXGA (1280x800), a Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz) CPU, 1GB of Memory, 80GB of HDD, WiFi a/b/g/n, DVD Super-Multi Drive, Bluetooth.

This notebook is designed for professional use, with a keyboard reinforcement....

No word about availability date or price.

The information about the Z series doesn't seem to match the US/Euro release or the one found on the Japanese Vaio website. I really hope that it's not the watered down specs reported here. It seems to be a really sweet laptop (just a bit expensive...) Did any of you get to play with it?

At picture 26 theire is another notebook with Full-HD, perhaps 18 Inch. But when from Sony I think it will have about 4 kg...

i bought 1 vaio type vgn-fw50b here in japan.but i dont understand coz its all written in nihongo.can i change it in english????

unless it came with vista ultimate, you will have to reinstall with an english version of windows. Only Ultimate can switch different languages for the OS.

I should warn you that you will have a lot of trouble getting the drivers and software that you need.

Maybe easier learning to read Japanese, actually.
