Akiba Interactive Review: 5D Mark II Full HD Video Screenshot (Beta Version)

Many of you asked us to release some Full HD video samples (1920x1080) shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. At the moment, Canon Japan refuses to allow us to do that. However, Canon didn’t specify anything about screen shots of Full HD video. Let us give you our first impression.

What can we say? We’re crying! It's so beautiful! We were weren't frustrated at all with the brief test we made with the beta version at the official press conference. It’s simply incredible!! Interrupting video is almost equivalent to getting pictures with a resolution of 1920x1080! This will allow the smallest stipend, to get a camera with an image quality similar to an expensive professional camera, but good quality lenses are required.

The only snag for the moment ( we hope this will be improved on with final version firmware) regards the video mode, where only the exposure compensation can be adjusted (and focus) . Everything (ISO, aperture, speed ...) is automatic and it's difficult acquiring beautiful effects (depth of field…). So we need to shoot in low light, otherwise it goes directly to f8 or more ... We hope this issue will be improved with the official launch (we’re sure geniuses will find an alternative firmware if Canon doesn’t do anything).

We attached the screenshots of the Full HD 1080p video taken during the day (the night shots will come later) with the following opticals:
- 135mm f2.0
- 90mm f2.8 TS-E
- 50mm f1.4
- 14mm f2.8 LII
