EMOBILE and Huawei Launch Japan' s First Commercial HSPA+ Network

Is it time for me to get of one these EMOBILE HSDPA+ thingies for my laptop? EMOBILE, a mobile operator in Japan that uses the NTT DoCoMo network and propose a lot of nice Windows mobile phones, announced their HSPA+ with speed up to 21.6Mbps in downlink support in several locations … EMOBILE is pretty much one of Japan's cheapest 3G data operators and provide pretty good services… If you're an Emobile user here in Japan and have some feedback please see the comment section below!

[Tokyo, Japan, 5 August, 2009] Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, and EMOBILE, a leading operator in Japan, today launched Japan' s first commercial HSPA+ (high-speed packet access evolution) mobile broadband network. With its mobile data speeds up to 21.6 Mbps on the downlink, the new 3G network covers cities such as Hokkaido, Sendai, Niigata, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

EMOBILE' s subscribers are now able to receive enhanced mobile broadband services such as high-speed Internet browsing, streaming media and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Huawei provided EMOBILE with its end-to-end solution including the advanced distributed base station (DBS), as well as its HSPA+ data card (D31HW).

"Japan' s first commercial HSPA+ network will provide EMOBILE customers with the most advanced and sophisticated mobile broadband services in the country," said Mr. Eric Gan, Representative Director, President and COO of EMOBILE. "This is a significant milestone for EMOBILE, our network partner Huawei, and the Japanese telecommunications industry as it heralds the introduction of truly high-speed mobile broadband services that will substantially improve the user experience in Japan."

" Japan' s first-ever commercial HSPA+ network is a platform that will deliver a world-class mobile broadband experience to EMOBILE' s customers and advance Japan' s telecommunications industry through our leading solutions in mobile broadband field and strong capability in delivery," said Mr. Yan Lida, Managing Director of Huawei, Japan. "We are very pleased to be part of this important development for EMOBILE."

EMOBILE is a leader in the mobile broadband field in Japan and has been working closely with Huawei since 2007. As of June 30, 2009, the number of EMOBILE' s subscribers exceeded 1.67 million since the service started two years ago.

Home Page:
When EMobile first launched, it was a MVNO on DoCoMo's 2100mhz (UMTS Band I) network. But EMobile has since constructed its own network towers and its devices run on 1700mhz (UMTS Band IX).

You can check that the D31HW is only using W-CDMA 1700mhz for the HSPA+ connection in the specs:

So EMobile is not using DoCoMo network.
