Well... I beg to differ.
In Japan, Vodaphone's signals are quite weak and their coverage area even worse. So, unless they have a better system in Taiwan, it's not such a great bet for any Vodaphone model.
Second, this phone has no BlueTooth that I can tell (from your description) making it just as weak as 90% of the phones on the Japanese market. If' it's got such a good music player, I'll want to sync it with my computer.
And iPods work with iTunes - but this one won't. Or with my Mac.

Where did you read bluetooth?
Now as for the coverage, the Phone is one thing the network is another, I use a HTC Universal in Japan with a Vodafone Simcard and the coverage area is weak, now I plug a DoCoMo Sim Card and the coverage area is MUCH Better... Complain at Vodafone not Toshiba.
Now if you say that the reception on this handset is weak that another thing...

I didn't read bluetooth - but to be a premium phone, it would need it - IMHO.
Second, it's not the iPod of phones b/c it's not selling so well here as an iPod, because Vodaphone's coverage sucks. The iPod is successful in large part because Apple provides good 'coverage' in terms of iTunes and its online store.
I think there are many media players that are better than the iPod, but they aren't in iPod class, because they don't have the iTunes integration or other niceties that make the iPod what it is.
I don't know anything about plugging in Vodaphone vs. Docomo SimCards- doesn't sound like something all of us could do. And Docomo isn't selling this phone - right? So...
In any case, I'm not intending to offend you - just point out that your iPod analogy is weak.

Hi does anybody know if the 803 can now be unlocked?

The following is from the Vodaphone Japan English Catalog:
EXTERNAL MUSIC CONSOLE for easy music listening
The Music console let's you easily access downloaded music or pc music files transferred to memory cards even while the phone is folded. 803T is also capable of playing music while you use mail or the Web, so music can be enjoyed anytime!
NOTE: Music tranfer is Not easily accomplished if you are a Mac User (as has been noted by other posters). It is possible to transfer music using virtual PC (albeit a pain in the ass).
2.26 megapixel mobile camera, stereo twin speakers and Bluetooth.
Enjoy enriched functions such as listening to music with stereo twin speakers, IrDA and Bluetooth provide wireless communications with computers and other devices. With the bundled SD memory card you can also use a dictionary of approimately 116, 000 words.
NOTE: I have found the camera to be quite a bit more blurry than my older, lower resolution Au phone, and I don't see anyway to see the pic preview when the phone is folded. However, that said, I haven't played around too much yet (as its still new), nor have I used the Bluetooth or IrDA with a Mac or a PC, so I can offer no comment.
Anyway, hope this helps, and if anyone knows of how to unlock this phone, please leave a post here. Thanks.
