Xacti DMX-HD700 : Xacti DMX-HD700 hands-on… Well done Sanyo!

Xacti DMX-HD700 hands-on… Well done Sanyo!

This morning Sanyo organized an informal meeting for us, where we could quickly play with both the HD1000 and HD700. While we we will of course receive both products for a test within the coming weeks, we wanted to share with you our very first impression on the HD700.

First of all, the product is extremely well made; it takes after the water-proof model E1, but in a smaller package. Even if the HD700 is replacing the HD2, there is absolutely no comparison between the two of them: the HD700 is REALLY capable in providing you great 720p video, FINALLY! Of course do not expect to get a stunning and crispy image like a HVX200 for example, with an HD700, but for an everyday usage model, OR for your Blog, this is clearly a great choice.
As the photo quality is concerned, well not much to say here, it has a "Xacti" quality picture, which is quite decent, but not stunning. Once again, perfect for an everyday usage.

Once again, we will get both the HD1000 (This is one is a killer!) and HD700 for a spin within few weeks, but I am very pleased to tell you that Sanyo worked very hard to provide us a great product which you will surely enjoy using everyday. Finally a lot of people asked me if the HD700 is or will be available like the E1 with a Waterproof body; even though Sanyo could not confirm this either way, they told us that they have had a lot of requests regarding this matter, and I am sure that in the future they will come with a possible water-proof HD700 (just cross your fingers).

I've seen some 1080i and 720p samples from the HD1000. Very impressive!

How does the HD700's 720p footage compare with the HD1000? They use different sensors so i imagine there will be differences.

If HD700 can pull off what HD1000 can in 720p, then the smaller size of the HD700 will be a big plus

Awesome pictures! I wonder how much more compact the HD700 is compared with the HD1000, and how their optics compare. We already know the HD1000 does 720p at 60fps and 1080i at 60 fields per second video recording and that the HD700 is limited to 720p at 30fps. So it'd be interesting to know if low-light sensitivity, auto-focus, colors and more would be as good with the cheaper HD700.

Overall I think these Sanyo camcorders look awesome, I just wish they were a bit cheaper. I guess they position themselves around the price of the competing AVCHD camcorders.

I wonder if there will soon be as good quality and cheaper camcorders using the new Texas Instruments chip and that chip that Aiptek uses for its cheaper 720p camcorders.
