Live from Japan: HD-DVD, what is that? Is this a new kind of Tofu, some tasteless stuff ?

And yes, the holy war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is yet to be over, and today the BDA or Blu-Ray Disc Association, asked the Japanese company GfK Marketing Services Japan Ltd. to investigate on that matter, and to find out which format between the DVD, HD-DVD and BLU-RAY is the leading one in Japan (when it comes to media recorders)... And guess what? The HD-DVD is almost non-existent... Sometimes images are worth a 1000 words, so just feast your eyes on these so nicely done ones....

Note: Even if this research has been ordered by the BDA in Japan, I have to admit that purchasing a HD-DVD here is somehow tricky; then again, who really believes market research ?

Wow! Definitely interesting statistics here. I had no idea Blu-ray is so dominant in Japan.

There's no unit scale on the first graph

Yeah, where's the units? That graph could be showing us that BD is outselling 10:1, but if they only sold 10 units and HDDVD has sold 1 unit, then the battle is far from won...

I find it interesting that so many people flock to blu-ray unknowingly. In a side-by-side comparison I find HD-DVD to be twice as good in quality. Better compression, better hardware, and more stable media. Many experts have said HD-DVD is the better choice yet blu-ray gets all of the press. Sounds like another sony press buyout. I hope a third better selection comes along. Neither of them are good enough and blu-ray definitely has it's major flaws.
