Stunning Canon EOS 5D Mark II Video Sample: Is It Real?

Two weeks ago we released a Canon EOS 5D Mark II video sample. As we said, we're a little disappointed by its weird image quality, in particular regarding color.

Maybe some of you have seen Canon's new sample. This time, we were very impressed with its quality… Maybe a bit too impressed... It’s too beautiful to be real compared with what we saw at Canon’s press conference… It's said that the Canon 5D provides more brightness than the Canon XH G1 in low light conditions.

For those who haven't seen it, here’s the link to Canon's 5D Mark II official video.

Well, if that video IS real, then it's the best consumer video camera on the market! Amazing footage. No doubt it helps to be a pro director and have car mounts and access to helicopters to get those shots, but still. Destroys my Xacti HD700.

It seems real, but you have to remember that after seeing the "Behind" the scene, they were WELL equipped, and I am sure they do not show everything, I know the FC has an image stabilization feature but 0 shake in the Heli or while runnig its a but... "strange" to me

the credits mention the use of a gyro stabilizer... that may help but still amazing anyway

From what I've read on Vincent Laforets' blog it was a quickly put together shoot and he was using a prototype and not a full production model. Though there still seems to be a fair amount of scepticism as to the quality this little offering from Canon produces, I think we have to remember that it was shot by a Pulitzer prize winning photographer that seems to be thriving in NY in the commercial and editorial field. I only hope the 1Ds IV (when it comes out)will offer the same quality of HD capture without the issues that seem to be mentioned (shortish capture due to FAT32 format and no user control of shutter speeds)
