Akiba World: T-Mobile G1 Round Up

There hasn't been much hot news recently here in Japan, so we here at Akihabara News decided to check out what’s happening overseas. We found the first android mobile phone, the new G1, available October 22nd.

Here are some interesting reviews we selected for you:

T-Mobile G1 Review from Engadget
T-Mobile G1 Google Android Phone Review [Google Android] from Gizmodo

To sum up:

As for hardware, the G1, with a “retro-future” look by HTC, comes with a surprising, but useful track ball, even though it has a touch screen and full keyboard. The hinges, when the screen is flipped out to use the use the keyboard, are robust. The LCD touchscreen (320x480) provides bright and vibrant colors, with a smooth finger-based navigation using capacitive touch (Gizmodo found the keyboard a bit annoying). The G1 provides ok sound quality, but the cell signal is a bit spotty… Engadget got about 11 hours and 21 minutes of battery lifespan running both Media Player and 3 G, but without calls.

The android system appears to be solid in the software department according to Gizmodo. Its OS manages simultaneous tasks very well . There are some problems concerning the interface with inconsistent actions and unclickable regions. The G1's browser doesn't support flash, and appears to suffer from the multi-touch issues.
