Vaio Type G, the mini review

A few weeks ago, Sony presented in Japan the new Vaio Type G. Depending on the model, it is equipped with a U1400 CPU, an optical reader, and a carbon case which allows the computer to resist up to 120kg of pressure. Its weight may be as low as 898g.

Combining this much power, strength and lightness, is such a feat that we hardly could wait until December to get our hands on a model and contacted the Sony Japan representative in charge of Akihabara News to request a demo sample. Exactly 12 hours after our request, Sony was delivering a Type G to our door…

To get more technical information on this computer, we invite you to click on the following link: Sony Vaio Type G, the latest ultra killer weighing less than 900g.

We also prepared a 10mn video about the computer, in which I, Daimaou the Green Space Pig, try to explain why I totally fell in love with this machine.

But you’ll probably get bored hearing me ramble on for 10mn… So, to make it simple: Only Panasonic is reigning supreme over the “Ultra” market with their R5, a compact portable PC that is extremely reliable and light. To be honest with you, quite a number of journalists and professionals in Japan use the R5 for the reasons I just mentioned above. While the R5 is not very “sexy”, Sony came up with a PC that is certainly bigger, but it also has a larger display and is as light (even lighter), robust, better-looking, and more flexible, with a biometric reader, a TPM chipset, Bluetooth, an optical reader…

Admittedly, the Sony Type G is slightly more expensive, but the price difference is meaningless considering what this computer has to offer. The Vaio Type G is THE compact PC of the moment, and while I had it in my hands for a few days, I totally forgot about the Panasonic R5… Thank you Sony!

Plus:
Better than a Panasonic R5
Better than a Panasonic W5
The DESIGN!
Removable optical reader

Minus:
The price
No Core Duo ULV
