So these are the new gen plasmas that were soon to be released, it is very stupid to not make them full HDTV, im guessing Panasonic will even the level by making it much cheaper then a hdtv of equal size.

Well I really had the feeling that they try to mislead people with the term HD, there are nowadays so much confusion about HD, Full HD, HD ready... but in Japan they make it even worse, there is ONLY HD (some times Full HD) so for Japanese all new generation TV are HD. Well back to the conference, They really try to avoid the Full HD and HD Ready stuff, they were showing slide with 1080i with HD for the DVD recorder and next a HD Logo on the PDP... A journalist ask also the question about Full HD, but the answer was quite "fishy"... But this is true a Full HD panel is expensive (less than 300.000 Yen in Japan for a 37"

Jeezus, will you get off the "full HD" kick already???
1080i is all the HD you will ever need. 1080p is totally unnecessary on any display under 60", and even then it's really freakin' hard to tell the difference between the two. I speak from experience as an HD PDP manufacturer (both 768p and 1080p), and unless you're standing mere inches away from the display, you simply won't see the difference.
Stop crying the numbers game and do some objective research.
It is not "very stupid" to not make a display or recording device "full HD". It is perfectly logical and economical because there is no content being broadcast at 1080p, and there are no plans by any network to do so. It is currently too bandwidth intensive. If and when 1080p content on Blu-ray or HD DVD ships (more delays are in the works for HD DVD as we speak), a 1080p display might make sense. As far as being able to record 1080p, that seems especially unlikely thanks to Hollywood.

Listen, obviously you are NOT a hardcore gadget/computer person, so you wouldn't understand why people would waste 1000$ more for 5% improvement, or just for bragging rights. There is no logical counter arguement to this.
